Dear Friends:

The lyrics from the Beatles song ring true when I think of the folks at New Schools Baton Rouge. This incubator of quality schools and creator of quality educational ecosystems is doing a terrific job supporting and recruiting high quality schools to Baton Rouge.

This became abundantly clear this past week during our board meeting. NSBR’s Kara Maggiore was on hand to show continued support for GEO Prep Academy, GEO Prep Mid City and support for our new high school (scheduled to open in 2019). While she was with us, I asked Kara to detail for the board the various supports NSBR has already provided us and it is worth sharing out. NSBR has supported our science curriculum, our playground, our school leadership training via Relay, helped us with a partnership with CityYear, a relationship with Brothers Empowered to Teach (a tutoring and mentoring program), they’ve helped strengthen our board via a program with Board on Track, and are now assisting us with a long term strategic plan by providing us access to one of the best strategic planners in the country. These are significant supports and we are just getting started. There is more good news to share, but I will wait to do that next month.

We are grateful for the support of NSBR and want others to know their support of NSBR is helping them help us. This relationship with NSBR is one reason GEO Prep and GEO Mid City have demonstrated such strong results in their young school lives. Together, the two schools are serving more than 1200 students this year and both schools are among the top performers in the state and both are closing the achievement gap like none other.

So, thank you Chris Meyer (pictured above at our ground breaking ceremony with our Board Chair Linda Johnson), Brenna Lamb, Kara Maggiore (pictured below with Linda Johnson and Sgt. Daniel of the Baton Rouge Police Department) and all the fantastic leaders at NSBR. We appreciate your support and friendship!

Let’s keep changing the world together!

Sincerely,
