GEO Attracts Top Talent To Prepare For Future Growth

Dear Friends:

When friends ask me how things are going, I usually say, “Unfortunately, pretty good. If we weren’t needed, we wouldn’t be in business.” And yes, we are in demand!

GEO Academies will serve more than 2500 students in five different schools this August and we plan to open at least one new school in 2019–our early college high school in Baton Rouge. With the growth in Baton Rouge and Gary, and the potential of growth in other areas, GEO is proud to announce the addition of several new members to our staff. Emily Burke comes to us from the University of Indianapolis’ Center for Leadership and Learning having served as the Director of their statewide Early College Initiative. She helped schools all across Indiana, including ours, implement early college programs successfully. Prior to that, she served in several roles at Butler University including University Advancement, student affairs and as a student advisor. Marlon Llewellyn has returned to GEO after an eight year hiatus. Marlon was one of the first Marian University Principal Leadership Fellows and one of the first Mind Trust fellows. He assisted in developing one of Indianapolis’ first innovation schools. He also led one of the state’s turnaround high schools. For the past two years, Marlon has served as the principal of the Charles A. Tindley Charter High School, an “A” rated early college high school. Nicole Honore, most recently served as TAP Director for the State of Louisiana and has been involved with the development of each of our schools in Baton Rouge from the very beginning. Indeed, she is a big reason we’ve been so successful in identifying and attracting top talent in Baton Rouge.

GEO is committed to our model, which is centered on TAP, Early College, Core Knowledge and Teach Like a Champion strategies, and we believe our results will be even stronger with the addition of these three leaders supporting our network schools.

Let’s keep improving the world together!
